“Much to Learn, You Still Have”

Yes that is a Yoda quote for you Star Wars fans… just saying!

Woahh, lots to go over! Getting adjusted to my new schedule hasn’t been very easy, but I think now I’ve got everything figured out… well most of everything :)

So what have I been up to the last couple days you might ask? The simple answer is TOO MUCH haha. But really, I have been doing some serious scheduling, making sure that I can balance all the brand new changes in my life. One thing that I began this week, is car pooling to work! There are some pros and cons with this, mostly pros though. I save about $80 bucks a month on gas and tolls, plus get to have someone basically chauffeur me to and from work. Not only that, this means I’ll save approximately 9,000 miles a year on my new Honda Fit! Worst part… I have to get up at 4:50 am, but good news is I get home before 4 pm and have plenty of time to train :) Which is what I’ll get into next.

I originally started this blog to talk about my training, and how I balance that with everything else in my life. Recently though, I’ve come to the realization that I’ve been talking mostly about everything except my training :( . So that stops today! I want to get back to my roots, and give you guys what you really want…

To start, this weekend was quite eventful as far as training went. Saturday I ran 6 miles, with an average pace of 7:50 min/mile. Taylor joined me on here rollerblades, so I got a little company to keep me on pace. However, there was quite a funny moment around mile 3 when Taylor decided half way down a steep hill that she was going wayyy too fast, and bailed into the grass. Probably not very funny in her mind, but watching it was pretty amusing considering the panic in her voice. Truth be know, she would of been fine if she stayed on the trail. Anyways, we made it back safely.

On Sunday, I had a great brick workout in the Clermont hills. Rode 30 miles through some tough hills, mostly the Great Clermont Olympic course for those of you who have done it. There is one road in particular called Cherry Lake that is just amazing! Imagine beautiful lakes surrounded by cherry blossom farms through some good hilly terrain, on a picture perfect day and 70 degree weather… that was my ride. Afterwards, I quickly put on the running shoes and headed out for a 5k. It was a great way to end the weekend :)

Now on to tonight: An Epic Night of Swimming! It was my first Master’s Swim at the National Training Center (NTC) here in Clermont, and boy did it not disappoint. The whole program is lead by Sara McLarty and her personal coaches Misty Becerra and Alec Rukosuev (6 time Ironman and a 13th place finish at Ironman World Championship). Yes people professional triathlete SARA McLARTY. Just a short list of some of her accomplishments:

  • 4th in Olympic Time Trials for 400m Freestyle
  • 2nd at SCM World Championships (400m Freestyle)
  • 3rd at Open Water World Championships (5k)
  • 2nd at USA Elite National Championships
  • 3rd at Escape to Alcatraz

Believe me she is an awesome triathlete, and Coach Misty is amazing at her job! There is no doubt that tonight kicked my butt. As Yoda said, I have a lot to learn.

Even though I’d recommend a coach and being part of the group, they do post all our workouts on the NTC blog, if you’d like to try some workouts yourself!

And that’s my life up to today! Tomorrow is a 35 mile ride, with some strength training after. Hope you all have a good night and rest of the week :)
